STATEMENT OF FAITH AND DOCTRINE
We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God and our sole authority in matters of faith a practice. This church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of the The Baptist Faith and Message (BFM) as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000. (Click on the link to read the BFM. https://bfm.sbc.net/bfm2000/) We voluntarily band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to lost mankind. The ordinances of the church are believer’s baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
The objective of the Corporation shall be the support of public worship, the teaching and preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the carrying out of the Great Commission of our Lord as given to us in Matthew 28: 19-20.
This object shall be advanced in line with accepted tenants and doctrines of the Southern Baptist Convention. The church shall observe the Ordinance of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper and may act in cooperation with other churches of like faith and purposes in advancing the objects herein declared.
We the people of Schwab City Baptist Church are the body of Christ in this place, living under the Lordship of Christ and according to the truth of His Word. We have been placed here to fulfill the following responsibilities.
- Evangelizing the Sinners: To share the good news of Christ with everyone who needs to hear. (Matthew 28: 19-20; Acts 1:8)
- Equipping the Saints: To teach the Word of God and equip Christians to serve Him. (Matthew 28:20; Acts 18:11; Colossians 3:16)
- Exalting the Savior: To draw near to God in worship so that His power might manifested in our lives. (James 4:8; Romans 12:1; Hebrews 10:25)
- Edifying the Saints: To provide a network of support for those who have need. (Matthew 25:34-40; Galatians 6:2, 10) To stimulate one another in Christian love and spiritual growth, working together in a spirit of unity. (Hebrews 10:24; Ephesians 4:3-16; Acts 2:42)
Having been led as we believe by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Christ as our Lord and Savior and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father; and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully enter into convent with one another as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, doctrines, and discipline; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, and the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from sale of and use of intoxicating drinks as beverage; to use our influence to combat the abuse of drugs and the spread of pornography; and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.
We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness an distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, always ready for reconciliation an mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay.
We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will soon as possible unite with some other church were we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
